TOP GEARS JEREMY CLARKSON CHOOSES THE FASTEST CAT ON THE ENGLISH CHANNEL AND WINS THE RACE TO THE SWISS ALPS

21 December 2004

.... so when it came to crossing the English Channel to film a thrilling cross-Europe race with a difference, it was no surprise that he decided to travel from Dover to Calais on Hoverspeeds super-fast Seacat.

Fans of the popular BBC programme Top Gear know that presenter Jeremy Clarkson has a taste for speed, luxury and style. So when it came to crossing the English Channel to film a thrilling cross-Europe race with a difference, it was no surprise that he decided to travel from Dover to Calais on Hoverspeeds super-fast Seacat.

Speed King Clarkson was taking part in a race from the UK to Verbier in the Swiss Alps, in a programme screened yesterday, Sunday 19 December. While Clarkson chose a 196mph Ferrari 612 Scaglietti (0-62mph in 4.2 seconds), his co-presenters on the award-winning show travelled by a combination of bus, plane and train.

Just one hour after leaving Dover aboard the Seacat Diamant, Clarkson was in France and speeding off towards the Swiss Alps in a nail-biting race which he eventually won with seconds to spare.

After arriving in Dover earlier this month, Clarkson took time to admire the Union Jack-emblazoned Diamant before driving aboard and setting off for France. The 38-knot Seacat provides the fastest sea crossing from Dover to Calais, crossing the Channel in only one hour.

Hoverspeeds Graham Brock said: This is the second time in the last 12 months that Jeremy and the Top Gear team have chosen to travel with Hoverspeed while taking part in unusual cross-Europe road races. During the crossing Jeremy also visited the bridge, where he compared driving notes with the Captain!
